Aftermarket headlights / taillights for AE85/6

Postby jondee86 » Sat Nov 14, 2009 9:11 pm

Does anyone know what the story is with aftermarket lights for the
AE85/6 ?? These are the direct replacement type that look and work
exactly like the OEM parts, but don't have Toyota markings.

Are these legal ?? Any problem in getting a WOF if you get some anal
retentive pedant checking your car ??

I'm lead to believe you can't get the genuine items from Toyota any
more... anyone able to confirm this one way or the other ??

As long as they have the appropriate standards on then I can't why you would have a problem

My point exactly.... the chances of Taiwanese/Chinese lights having
Standards markings acceptable to Land Transport is kind of slim. The fact
that the lights will do the job just fine doesn't count for squat if they don't
have the right "marks".

However, once the car has been VIN'ed, does anyone ever look at the
markings on lights again ??

Are there standards for lights?

Or just requirements they must meet? Certain light pattern etc?

Considering people use boat trailer lights for indicators etc I would have thought so long as it meets the WOF requirements, it would be ok?

pretty sure there's both
There are plenty of Taiwanese lamps sold in NZ.
There were some Hiace clear tail lamps on the market that had no standards marked on them, a few unhappy custys when mr wof man picked it up!
