4afe breather/catch can

Postby jeremiahnz » Sat Nov 14, 2009 12:38 pm

Hi guys,

I had a catch can lying around so decided to chuck it in my wagon as per the attached pic

I ran it off the PCV valve. I also have a breather filter spare and was wondering if I can use it on the second vacuum line that runs from the rocker cover to the intake manifold (with the breather installed on the rocker cover end and the intake manifold end blocked off).

I couldn't find a good vacuum diagram for the 4afe, so if some one can tell me the airflow and function for the second vacuum line, and whether it has any valves on it, that would be great.

Cheers

My understanding of the PCV system is there is a fresh air line going into the cover (which could be that second line you are talking of) and a PCV valved line which carrys all the blow by gases back to the intake for recirculation (emissions control).

on my 3SGTE I used to run a breather filter but apprently some engines require the vacuum pull on the intake side to assist pulling the gases out so my catch can I have blanked off the 3rd port on it.

I also run an inline filter to remove any final oil vapour that gets past the catch can.

so the system goes

fresh air in >>> pcv valve = gases out >>>> catch can >>> inline filter >>>> intake
