mr2 turbo gearbox questions

Postby gasman » Sat Dec 05, 2009 7:09 pm

since mr2 gearbox internals are supposedly interchangable with 4agze gearboxes, would i be able to swap a e58 lsd into a early mr2 turbo gearbox?

is the gearbox code for lsd and non lsd gearboxes all e153?

the reason i ask is because im looking at buyin a mr2 turbo but for the ones equiped with a lsd seem to go for a lot more than a older turbo one without lsd, and i now have a busted e58 gearbox with a mechanical lsd.

as long as it is the same gearbox code you will be fine, if it isn't you have to be careful as some E series gearboxes have wide cogs, some have narrow cogs, the wide cog boxes are approx 30mm longer than the narrow cog box.

for the gearbox code do you mean, E to E only, not E to S?

as for the gears, i should only be swapping in the lsd so i will also be swapping the mr2 ring gear over onto the E58 lsd i assume.

You can put a E58 lsd into a MR2 box.
You just have to use the bearings and spacers off the MR2 diff and press them onto the LSD diff from the E58 box.

Basically you will just want the bare diff, and swap all the bist off it over.

S series is the non turbo version. You need the E series turbo version

the "diff" is a different width between wide and narrow cog boxes

I think thats what the press on spacers are for. So you can interchange.
