Unsure of weather it's engine or trans related...
Worst stopping at the top of hills, although can be induced by rapid braking almost anywhere - revs drop till stall, but car doesn't shudder (as it would if stopping a manual with the clutch out) so that probably rules out torque converter locking open.
Have checked with a couple of mechanics who can't work it out without further investigation and a trans mechanic who doesn't think it's trans but I'm not convinced. Does anybody know what may cause this behaviour? My mechanic thought the throttle body needed a cleanout but that hasn't sorted the problem. Strangely it continues to run if I change down to 2nd then 1st as I would a manual(3rd/2nd
) hence my thinking it's the trans.
Bah get me a damned manual!! Short of that help would be appreciated
