well I got the goddamn seals out, mr2-tech.com was down and it didn't help since I've never done axle seals before and have no idea what I'm in for.
After a lot of swearing, I finally got the shaft out of the box.
As you can see, there are tell tale signs of me using the axle to have rough intercourse with the seals ...
I tried to pull it out (I have no idea that the seal is actually rubber on a very tight metal ring, I don't have a reference to this). So I gentlely pulled it, and it just crumble to a million pieces.
I also found this metal spring contraption hanging loosely a bit deeper inside the glory hole.
Anyways, I was confused why I can only pulled bits of rubber off (2 x half moon shaped on above pics) and I'm hitting a metal ring, which looked as if it's part of the gearbox housing, which I don't want to damage, but I do see a notch on the top, toyota wouldn't put it there for no reason. And the rubber goes deeper down the hole. After a lot of screwdriver work of various sizes, it did not move.
Finally, I used the handle of a long powerbar, lined it up with the notch, and made sweet love with it (giving it hell), and the metal ring popped right off.
Here's a shot with everything out
Now I'm waiting for the new seal.
