Panel Filter Replacement

Postby metal_sean_head » Tue Mar 09, 2010 12:32 pm

I tried searching but can't seem to find anything so can someone with an AE92 1989 FXGT corolla hatch please measure the dimensions of the standard air panel filter in the factory airbox as im looking at purchasing an aftermarket filter?

Big Port redtop if this helps

Im looking at this sort of thing

http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motor ... 61456.html

Ive been on the ryco website but i just need the dimensions to be sure.
Or if someone can send me the appropriate link to the ryco website for the correct filter.

My car is not with me and i won't get a chance to measure it for a month or so ,so i can't measure it sorry.

Any help would be appreciated.
Or if anyone else has any suggestions other than an aftermarket filter in the factory airbox that is relativly cheap this would be appreciated aswell.

Thanks guys.
:)

Would you say going with an aftermarket panel filter is my best option for relative cheapness?

I run a K&N panel filter in my car, but used to run a boring standard filter, no noticeable performance difference. imo.

Would i be better off to get some pipe and some silicone joiners and a Decent pod filter and make up some sort of intake pipe? Locate the Pod somewhere in the bumper. Not sure how much room i will have as the car is a while away from me atm.

What have other people done?
Not wanting to spend a huge amount.

Is it worth the gains?

Thanks

Short answer Nope.

Keep airbox. Unless big cams+ecu+what else you have.

you will generally not get any noticeable gains with an aftermarket filter and standard intake. Have a look at www.autospeed.co.nz and search for cold air intake. Here is a good page to look at too, it is what i am setting up on my ae92 http://www.autospeed.co.nz/A_110824/cms/article.html
