IG Timing for 1987 4Y Hiace

The manual says:

Europe 16 BTDC
Other's 4 BTDC

12 Degree's difference is a bit crazy. What could be so different between the europe and 'other' models?

And what should I have it set to?

I'd have a stab at it being the differance in leaded petrol and unleaded.

But thats at a guess.

I'll have to check what it's set to tonight.

It's started pinging

Retard it back to TDC and advance it a few degrees take it for a spirited drive, if it doesn't ping advance it further. When it pings retard it.
