Haha I'd love to see a WOF sheet that says "Lots of play in the wheel and very wobbly when not attached to vehicle"
Motorsport is like sex. You could take it to track and have a long, enjoyable session, or you could take it to the strip and get it over with in less than 20 seconds.

how can you fail a wof for a wobbly wheel if its not attached to your car?!

that could be anyones wheel mister...

as others have mentioned theres four or five things that could be causing 'play in wheel' good plan to work out which it is before spending.

well, after a few calls, i bought a new rack end, and tie rod end, for the whopping sum of $45 including freight. hopefully one of these fixes it. if it's the wheel bearing as suggested earlier, they're quite expensive apparently. my girlfriend's dad who is a mechanic will be helping me fix it. although he does not know this yet.

Because as CXGPWR pointed out, the wheel is a seperate item, and its highly unlikely that the wheel has any 'play' in it.

I was mearly making a joke, which I'm guessing was not obvious to you. You're not German, are you? :P

wheel bearings aren't too bad, just don't buy from repco. I usually go through bearing wholesale and IIRC they're usually around $50-70. Changing them isn't too bad if you have access to a press + angle grinder and at least kinda know what you're doing

Maybe if you work at a testing station.

if you have play shacking the wheel vertically back n forth, its more likely to be a wheelbearing or balljoint, use a pry bar under the wheel and get underneath with a spotty. if you feel play from side to side movement its more likely rack end or tie rod.

put your hand on the rack boot and grab the knuckle/shaft between your fingers, get someone to move wheel side to side, you will clearly feel the movement if its rooted. shine the torch on the tierod boot while youre at it. The pressed part of tierod will be moving away from the boot if it is. sometimes the movement will be there under load (wheels on ground).

If its a wheelbearing youl see the wheel only rock if you look from the inside. Try tighten first with a rattle gun before you replace it.
