tial wastegate not shutting properly??

Postby d1 mule » Wed Jun 30, 2010 11:18 pm

hey,

so after FINALLY taking my car for its maiden thrash at the track after rebuilding it, I decided to remove the boost controller and just put the appropriate spring rate springs in the wastegate, as i noticed some weird things happening on the gauge. (was peaking then dropping back to spring press (10psi) rather than boost controller press (14psi))

so after much pissing about i got the wastegate off (which is a Tial 38mm V band new type one) I noticed on the exhaust side the piston type thing doesnt seat perfectly on the housing, which i would assune would be essentially a permant exhaust leak???

is this normal????

All the ones ive seen including my Tial one,
have a removable seat that the gate seals on,
and it falls out easily every time you pull it off.

Your pictures are not that great, but it looks like the actual seat is missing?

edit: not a genuine one but this picture shows the seat in the back at the top.

iv had a look around and there is nothing on the ground that looks like it could have been in there.

this seat, is it supposed to go inbetween the valve (moving part) and the housing, because if it is i dont see how it would fall out

ad i dont see a seat thing in this diagram

The seat is there in your pictures.
When you fit the wastegate at least with the 2 bolt style ones, the seat gets pushed in up against the valve and seals it. Not sure how it works with the clamp type, im assuming the same way.
