3sgte no fuel when cranking

Postby jamuba » Mon Aug 02, 2010 9:23 am

Hi

I've just fitted a 3sgte to my 4wd trials truck, gen 2 out of a sw20, for the last week I've had it running, not up to temperature yet as I haven't bleed the cooling system, but there is water at the temp sensors.
It had a flat spot just off idle when revving up, last night it wouldn’t start at all, nice fat spark and the pump is delivering heaps of fuel, I don’t have a fuel pressure gauge but I don’t think that’s the problem.
When I let go of the starter button the engine will give a cough and run on for a split second, when I tried this with the plug out there was nothing untill i let go of the starter then I could see a fuel mist coming out of the plug hole.

Any help would be appreciated

Cheers Chris

How is the fuel pump wired? Are you using stock pump and loom?

he plugged the vac line into the boost pressure sensor and it fired into life.

Funny, I thought they were only for fuel cut. Apparently not.

Unpossible, I ran it without the MAP sensor sensing anything but atmospheric for a year. Must've been a weird setup.
No "stance", no "hellaflush", none of that bullshit. Nothing but no grip on full boost.

your right Akane not the turbo senser, the problems still there, but it will start every now and again, some times with a huge flat spot some times not, stalled this morning getting out of the garage and wouldnt start in the f@##*n rain too.
I'm running the standard ecu, I've swaped the ecu, afm, throtle body including all sensors on it, and the solenoid resistor all with no solid results.

I'm going to look at the injector wiring to see if it might be a fault with the loom.

Any more idears would be great.

have you checked for error codes? Tried applying power (or is it earth? I'd suggest you check a wiring diagram first) to the FP pin in the diagnostic connector? That will switch the pump on continuously.

I'm trying to remember how the ECU controls the fuel pump, I know on the older (st165) 3sgtes it is switched on as soon as there is a signal from the AFM. I think on the SW20s it is done differently, I'll see if I can remember/find out later tonight.

Thanks Malcolm, havent checked the error codes yet.
the fuel pump is a wallbro thats switched on by the key not controlled by he ecu. so can count that one out.
I put a clamp on the fuel return to try to isolate the fuel regulator but no differance just loaded up the pump.

Have you checked the injectors?
Mate of mine had put an RB20DET motor from a wrecker in a skyline, but it would not start.
Turned out the injectors were clogged with old fuel that had crystalised.
