W series gearbox identifation and shifter positions

Postby jeda teach » Sun Aug 15, 2010 11:26 pm

Im looking for a toyota 5 speed box with the shifter position as close to the engine as possible. Have seen a few of these boxes on trade me (see pic below) From my knowledge it is a G series box ? correct me if im wrong.
I have a few questions,
Are they very strong, will they be ok to bolt up behind a non turbo 1gge engine as compared to using a w series box.

What are they out of, what engine originally bolted up to them.

Are they the same bellhousing configuration as the W series box.

Is the input shaft the same as the W series boxes.

Any other information anyone can share with me.

I can get my hands on one for a good price and the shifter location is near where i want it but if i could find a box with the shifter closer to the bellhousing would be better, chances are i wont find anything closer.
Has anyone tried changing the shifter location forward at all ?

Thank you in advance.
