ENGINE LIGHT?!

Postby AE92-5ONIC » Fri Aug 20, 2010 8:08 pm

Just finished putting the engine back in the Trueno after a complete overhaul and heavy porting and a little increase in the compression ratio.

Ok, here's the story. Start the engine, idles fine (the timing isn't perfect yet, but close) when I begin to rev the car 30secs to a min later the engine light turns on. The car is blowing a bit of smoke from the exhaust (i'm guessing from the timing being out a little bit), but I still think the smoke is excessive. another point I should also make is that the knock sensor slightly broke while transporting the engine, however the wires were still connected and was easy enough to glue back together.

Also, the exhaust is not completely fastened (still have to put the front exhaust mount on) so there is a little movement of the exhaust, i'm not sure if it is enough to trigger anything like a knock sensor though.

EDIT: Also airconditioning has been removed.
Appart from that, i'm fairly clueless on what it could be. Any ideas? :?

Have you put it in diag mode to get the fault code?

Nah, just finished putting everything together a few hours ago, so haven't had time to run it into an auto-electrician yet (as they work gentlemans hours :) )

Yeah standard ecu. Been looking around the whole engine for about 1 hour and a half, can't find a thing apart from what i've listed above.

Wow, thanks for that! didn't realise you could get error codes without a scanning tool, will give it a go tomorrow morning.

going by that I would be 99% sure you need a new knock sensor.
They are a very sensitive item and if it required glue, it is buggered.
