I used the realestate stuff but brought it new from a plastics place in Petone in WGN. You can get what ever colour you want. I chose black. I even fitted the factory plastic pin plug things so it could come on and off as required.

I recon get the textured plastic. Looks more 'stock'. And wont be out of place with the rest of the interior... well thats if you have interior.

If you are concerned about the carbon turning to razor wire and tearing up flesh, dont be. For that to happen, you are looking a very serious accident. The kind that NO ONE walks away from.

But, ya must feel safe in your car to drive confidently.

Huh? I thought carbon fibre broke easily... like fibre glass, perspex etc. Is it likely to bend/flex when punched, or break?

Smack a piece of carbon fibre with a sledge hammer to find out.

depends on the weave of the carbon obviously as to which direction it can bear the most load.

don't think of carbonfibre like fibreglass etc. if it fractures from a side impact, all you will have sticking out is the fibres and the resin (the bit which makes it hard) would have shattered and broken away. the fibres will seem like stiff material but would more than likely not puncture your skin etc.

there is a reason they use it in crumple zones in F1 cars.

but as stated it will be a very substantial prang to have to worry about that being a factor in which case you would be more worried about your broken bones.

Having had carbon shards of various sizes puncture my skin over the last few years, I can assure you that it can happen. It really depends on the failure mode as to what you end up with, and whether it's going to damage you. I think you'd pretty much need to fold your door in half before you break the carbon anyway, as thin sheets can flex a long way before they break.
