Fuel gauge needle problem

Postby coolnik12 » Thu Sep 23, 2010 7:48 pm

Hey guys i own a 1996 Trueno and i have been noticing that when i fill up fuel in my car, it takes pretty long for the needle to actually come up to the right level and then it drops down pretty fast hence not doing enough amount of kms.

Also halfway between the last line and the second last line the reserve light goes on :o i drive it till the end anyways but what do you guys think the problem is??

Cheers

I think this is normal. This is what my FX does.

How many kms are you getting to a tank?

Normal, the petrol tank isnt an even square shape.
In my case 300km to half and then 100km to empty.

+1 can confirm this is normal.

few dents in the bottom of the tank doesn't help though...

depends on a lot of things really though.
- have you got fresh spark plugs?
- have you cleaned your throttle bodies recently?
- have you replaced oxygen sensor?
- have you checked timing?

mine does (did) about the same km's on the open road and that was 20degrees advanced timing so hopefully i'll get a bit more out of it now

Got new spark plugs, havent cleaned the throttle bodies or the sensor. How much would it cost to change the oxygen sensor??

The four seasons in Australia consist of "$&#$% it's hot", "Can you believe how $&#$% hot it is?", "I won't be in today because it is too $&#$% hot" and "Yes, the dinner plate size spiders come inside to escape from the heat."

I get 450 to a tank around town(auckland traffic 5 days a week) 300kms to the first half and 150 to the second half. Thats running BP98 in my AE111

I replaced my oxy sensor with a TGP one about 6months ago as I was only getting 360-80kms to a tank so it is worth replacing

Sensor was $210-220 from memory. Email Mark our sponsor and he will be able to source a TGP one for you

my old on got between 300 and 400 km a tank.

replaced the AFM and it got good midrange + 480- 420 a tank around town.

I admit however I drove it like a convict, and spent alot of time going up and down steep hills .
