Replacement factory shocks or kyb and some new springs (non king-springs) would be perfect for a daily driven fx

For my AE82 FXGT I priced things up, KYB were ~160 a corner, genuine Toyota FXGT shocks were ~150 a corner, and koni 1 way adjustable were 400 a corner.

Emailed george stocks about a koni insert but they haven't replied and it's been a week :(

cracks me up how people poo poo king springs, based on a mates uncles neighbour that said they're crap

a second hand set of low springs (king/jamex/cobra/whatever) and new kybs all round if you want your streeter to handle better on a budget, cant be beat

first hand experience, Kings are well down the list on quality.
Stock KYBs will make it feel better becasue they are new. They will not be better than new genuine for this car.

Can you elaborate? I know you know your stuff, but its just more hearsay till something is actually proved. Any broken/sagging springs?

yea for sure, but it sounds like this guy isnt looking for anything extreme, a slightly lower centre of gravity and "like new" shocks should be the ticket.

Plenty of sagging springs and mis matched spring rates.
They list by size of the spring, not rating. So if it will fit, they list it. Rather than ensuring the spring rate suits the car.

If you've actually had first hand experience of this, its interesting, and surprises me. But remember there are probably more king springs out there than any other aftermarket spring, so their failure rate will appear bad (even if it's less than 1%). The only problems I've ever heard about with king springs have all been people saying "they're crap coz so n so said so"

I dont doubt this. Betcha king aren't the only crowd that do it tho. A single spring may fit in the front of a corolla, corona, celica etc, but the difference between 5 and 7km/mm in the average street car isn't going to be noticed (or dangerous). Especially when so many are running round with stuffed shocks anyway. (when will wof guys learn gas shocks dont leak when they're poked?)

Well, take from it what you will, but I have yet to drive a car with King springs that can compare to TRD, TEIN etc.

Hehe see I've got total opposite personal experience there (with tein), and nothing but good to say about King. But I'll leave it be :D

I'll agree with this, my old st185 had super lows in it, the fronts were designated st202 springs, and the rear were ae92!!! needless to say, the arse sat WAY down on that thing, tyres under the guards almost to the wheel itself!! looked good, but handle like shit

i cant believe that shocks arent checked more throughly, they have a life of 50-80ks and cars with 140ks are still running around with factory shocks..

they do a front adjustable koni for the ae82 but the rear you will have to get standard ae92 rears , cut the original shock out and put ae92 insert in and bolt from the bottom and elongate the hub bolt holes .
but nuthing , and i say nuthing compares to them 8) 8)

warrick settle petal  everybody seems to forget that an aftermarket STREET spring is just that , a street spring , they compare it to adjustables too much , and they all sag , people talk smack about springs but in all honesty and from years of experience and no bias id say they are pretty much all the same , some companys make better for certain cars , but ALL spring manufacturers use a spring in different applications , its called mass producing and saving of money 8)
