leaking bov?

Postby gleem » Sat Oct 09, 2010 3:42 pm

did a front facing plenum on my 20det and used a s15 bov. Its now alot slower that before to rev up in neutral and i have not taken it for a drive. have found out that when i accelerate air blows out off the bov and thats while its throttling. is this becasue theres a problem or this is how they work if they are supposed to be a recirculating bov

BOV's work the same way if they are recirc or vent to atmo. Pull a negitive pressure difference between plenum and BOV attachement point and the BOV should open. It should not be open under boost.
One thing to note is that if you don't have the vacume line to the plenum (post TB) correct the BOV will vent under boost. Either pinched, damaged or not correctly routed and the BOV will vent under boost.
The answer is Helmholtz!

They all vent at idle.

Adjust the BOV so that it is at its most 'unresponsive' setting (wont open up at all) . Then test to see if the problem is still there.
