corona 3s-fe random cutting out, help please gurus

Postby docTRD » Thu Dec 09, 2010 11:38 pm

hey peoples Ive been having an issue with my semi reliable 1992 corona lately. I had the same problem earlier this year and now its back.
Problem : I'll be driving along no problem or idling waiting for traffic and suddenly the engine stops and no dash lights come on. I can put it back into neutral and start it again then drive it no worries but randomly it can happen again or not. I also was idling waiting for traffic then turned on my head lights and the engine stopped. If im driving then it happens sometimes the engine will start firing again because its still turning over.

The strange thing is it seems that the main 12v power from the battery is cut off from the car as the clock and the stereo reset each time the fault happens. Wierd? Im thinking I have a dodgy relay in the engine bay which is causing this. Any ideas people?

Loose battery terminals or dodgy earth wire would be a good start
