Postby Lurkin » Tue Jan 11, 2011 8:42 am

found these details from THA SHZ for an ae101 gtz... wondering if they are appropriate/ suggestions for an ae101 levin, just a silvertop.

Hey dude specs are as follows........
FRONT :
Camber - 0.27 tollerance of 0.5
Castor +1.88 tollerance of 0.5
Total toe +1.00 tollerance of 1.0
Cross camber tollerance 0.5
cross castor tollerance 0.5

REAR :
Camber -1.08 tollerance of 0.5

AFAIK there is not much difference between superstrut and non superstrut in alignment specs

if its fully std setup just got 1 or 2mm toe in on front and neutral in the rear.

if you can adjust stuff this is what i've got mine set atm and its wicked for windy roads.. :D
front
camber - 3.5deg -ve
toe - 2mm toe in
castor - 4 deg foward

rear
camber - 1.5deg -ve (needs to be over 2 ideally)
toe - 1mm toe out

Toe-in front? Wouldn't it be best to have slight toe out on the front as when power is applied the wheels will "pull in" to be neutral. Then either neutral toe on the rear for straight line stability and toe out will help the car "turn"?

yeah toe in in front so when you brake in a straight line the steering arms adjust the toe to near neutral ready for turn in. of course different for each setup but this is how we are getting my car to turn in.

traction in a straight line isn't really a problem for anything NA 4age...

yup slight toe out in rear

When i had my 101 I always got them to swap the factory camber settings front to rear. Made a huge difference to the car. Was actually fun to drive!
Not so sure about 2mm toe in front either?

oh the toe in is just to combat the issues with bump steer effect when its lowered..is goes nuetral once you brake and start to turn into the corner as the suspension travels and the steering arms pull the toe back to normal.

need to lower further then flip the steering arms for added awesomeness. will get rid of those problems too and i can have a normal front toe setting. hopefully happening this week.

Went back in time with the search function 8O

found this from Mr Revhead:
yup the best improvement you can make to your ae101/111 is a set of TRD springs and a good wheel alignment.

ignore the factory settings, they run 0.3 neg front and 1.3neg rear.... you want less neg in the rear and more in the front.

i run 1.3-1.5 in the front and 1 at the rear, made a huge difference. tyres wear perfectly even
but note that may not suit your driving style....

coil overs are a waste of money on the road.

and its a bit of a job converting from s/s to non, and not worth it at all. the arms only need replacing every now and then and its a lot cheaper to change them than the whole front suspension!

Do you remember what it ment in terms of 'not suiting your driving style?' not trying to be a smart alec...

look really looking for something to allow it to handle ok and hopefully not eat tyres... pretty sure I can only adjust toe (i.e. via tie rod + steering rack end) as the suspension is stock (other than lowering springs) and thus appears not to have any other adjustable features?

by driving style I mean exactly that....
if you drive like a nana then lots of camber in the front will not be much benifit and could wear the inside of the tyres.
When I asked for those settings the alignment guys would say "you will wear out the inside of your tyres" The only time i have worn tyres unevenly is when they set it to factory and I wear the outside. The car also feels like shit.
I guess it depends how aggresive you are in the corners....

If its a run about in town then I wouldn't bother with lots of camber.

Just to triple check I've got this right

Right Front Toe:1.4
Left Front Toe: 1.3
Total 2.7

Right Rear Toe 1.1
Left Rear Toe 1.0
Total 2.1

= ok?
