Offset question

Postby eskimo » Mon Feb 07, 2011 8:28 am

Hi,

Im looking at a set of replacement wheels for the horrid chrome things that are on my RN90 Hilux at the moment. Ive found a nice set but they are a +30 offset.

From what I can find the RN90 has a +35 offset, will the wheels with a +30 offset fit without any issues?

Cheers
Jordon

Need to take wheel width into account too.

As long as the wheels are the same width, the only difference you'll have between a 35 offset wheel and a 30 offset is that the wheel will sit 5mm further out in the wheel well. So just picture your current wheel 5mm further out than it currently is and see if there's anything it would rub/catch on. Can even do it while it's on jack stands - undo the wheel nuts a few turns and pull the wheel outward to where the new wheel is likely to sit

not familiar with the RN90, but be careful of hitting the outer tie rod end an caliper when fitting different wheels.
this is especially a problem when swapping from IFS to beam axle on the 4WDs

Cheers, its got a surf guards on the front so it would look better if they sit a little further out :D

The current wheels are 7.5in wide where as the ones im looking at are only 7in wide so with the 4wd guards It should have plenty of clearance in the front, the rear also looks like there should be enough room

Would the stud length be an issue?

Nah stud length should be the same/similar.

The wheel will only sit further out if they're the same width. Going from a 7.5inch wheel with 35 offset to a 7inch wheel with 30 offset will actually make the wheel sit slightly further in because the wheel isn't as wide.

This is true BUT most clearance issues are the tyre not the rim, so same tyre on both rims will still see you 5mm further out. What size tyres? I would expect them to clear fine if you have 4WD guards.

I will do a trial fit on collection, just checking to see that they werent going to fit at all for some odd reason as its a 130km round trip to collect them.

You can get the centres bored out, pretty sure the Hilux is 67mm and most non commercial Toyota 5 stud is around 60mm. Tends to make cheap wheels not so cheap though. What are the wheels off?

my experience with wheels is, save up till you can afford what you REALLY want... any other version just ends up costing ya more :)
