Postby Brawler » Thu Feb 24, 2011 11:54 pm

Are bozo pipes legal? What are the laws surrounding the exhaust exiting the rear of the car?

I don't know the answer, but i'd say it would come down to how f**ked up would a pedestrian be if you hit them  Not allowed anything sharp / dangerous protruding from the car afaik.

VIRM introduction 3-3

http://www.nzta.govt.nz/resources/virm- ... n-v4a1.pdf

3.1.2 Inspection and certification
2. Determining compliance of a vehicle [section 7.4(1) of the Rule]
A vehicle may be certified for operation in-service only if a vehicle inspector or inspecting organisation has identified the vehicle and has determined, on reasonable grounds, that the vehicle meets all of the following:
a) it is safe to be operated under normal conditions of use, and

I suspect most WOF inspectors will take one look at such fitments and say that the vehicle as presented to them is not safe to be operated under normal conditions of use.

As above, you have made your car considerably more dangerous for pedestrians / cyclists / motorcyclists / people in other cars by the fitment of bozo pipes or an external oil coiler (if we go from the photo provided).

Flexible oil lines running to a cooler mounted behind a bumper might be a different story.

Isnt the whole point of boso etc to be as outrageous and rebellious as possible?

It's a little ironic to be worried about if it's all legal or not. :P

ya.

'isint it ironic'

actually... no.

as for your oil cooler, i think you'll find if you want to get fussy its probably not ok, for many of the same reasons they dont like cars with no front bumpers. even shifting it behind the bumper is messing with its crumple zones n shit.

you wanna go this road, make friends with a WOF place, and expect to pay to get green stickers removed from time to time.
