4age dosnt start up while driving it just lost power &di

Postby KIPH8N » Wed Mar 23, 2011 8:03 pm

I was driving my ae101 4age silvertop levin. Suddenly the car started de-accelerating even though i put my foot down on the accelerator and the engine died. When i cranked it seems to be cranking put dosnt start up.
I opened up the injectors to see if fuel was in there and it was.
Spark plugs was changed last year NGK irraduium.
Could it be the air flow meter?
Please help.

Check codes. Seriously, it's easy as and having the car tell you what is wrong with it is a lot more straightforward than posting questions on here and waiting days for someone to guess what is wrong with it..

1cm of play is huge, and if the cams arent rotating then the belt is broken.

Are 4age silvertop interference or non interference engines? I was in 3rd gear going 50 about to change to 4th so it was around 2000-2500rpm

So when you turn it over, the cams don't spin? But the belt is still attached? Sounds like you may have sheared off the crank pulley key, or you've lost the tension in the cambelt which has thrown the timing out.

By "1cm play" I assume you mean there is around 1cm slack when you grab the belt below the exhaust cam gear (the non-tensioned side)? Is the crank pulley spinning when you turn the car over?

Or just ripped the teeth off the part of the belt that goes round the crank pulley.

I still have to check the cambelt around the crank pulley it was dark so couldnt see properly.
As long as there is no internal damage im happy.

If it has ripped off the teeth then the rest of the belt would look OK as you wouldn't see the lost teeth part of the belt as it would still be around the crank pulley. The rest of the belt would look fine.
See ya
