Italian electrics or buggered motor?

Postby Grrrrrrr! » Wed May 04, 2011 10:57 pm

Finally picked up the Lancia.. and apart frm a few annoying but inconsequential electric warning lights, there is one that does concern me...the oil pressure guage. Below 2300rpm it sits at 0, as in not a thing, same reading as when the engine is not running. Hit 2500rpm and it sits rock solid at 4.5 bar, which seems like a fine reading to me. If the car wasn't italian i'd be handing the keys back to the owner tomorrow and saying no thanks, but given the reputation of Italian electrics I could be convinced that it is actually just a problem with the sender unit.

Opinions?

Probably is the sender but put a manual gauge on it just to make sure.

Earth the wire to the block and see what happens. I can't remember what way these ones work, but definately sounds like wop electrics.

May be worth also pulling the dash cluster and checking the earths and plugs for muck (applies to every plug on the car of course!).

The electrics on my 1987 Alfa were light years behind my old 1987 Toyota.
