Broken Starlet! Any advice appreciated

Postby ke2nv » Wed Jun 29, 2011 6:58 pm

Hey, Ive been running around in a 86 Starlet, 1300 EFI, hasnt missed a beat until just the other day. I noticed it was hesitating and spluttering as I was driving down the road, definately not at full power. It got worse and worse until foot flat i was doing 1500 rpm. The whole car was jolting and missing. I left it on the side of the road overnight, came back in the morning to tow it.
Before we towed it, I started it up, and it ran absolutely fine, drove it down the road and about 30 seconds later it died again, this time back firing from the air intake, and hesitating and coughing.
Hopefully someone on here would know what might cause this? Seems to be mainly a problem when the engine gets warm, Maybe a sensor? Any help would be appreciated. Cheers, Randal

I'd be guessing more EP71 with a 2E-E.

Checked plugs, leads, etc etc?

Yep EP71 with 2E-E
The plugs all look fine, no oil on them or anything. Leads are all on properly.

sounds like the fuel pump just shit itself. Occasionaly they run then die before crapping themselfs completely. Run the car untill it dies then take the fuel hose off and check if there's any fuel running through it.
