sw20 starter motor removal

Postby Grrrrrrr! » Wed Aug 31, 2011 9:40 pm

Two bolts and a gentle tap with a soft face should get it off right?

Just asking cos i've removed two bolts, hit it with WD40 and given it a few not so gentle taps and the little bugger hasn't moved more than 1mm. Is there some hidden bolt or a trick to it?

Yup, just two bolts. Might be catching on the clutch slave if its on a slight angle

Cheers, will go unbolt the clutch slave and if its still stuck resort to some more forceful persuasion.

Shouldnt need to unbolt it, just pull the starter straight back and it ought to come off. Might just need a wiggle while you're pulling it

not sure which direction you've been hitting it, but try hitting it on the mounting flange in a direction that'll make it rotate in the circular hole it's in/about the axis of the starter gear.

Yeah, tried the rotational thing, in the end just required using a screwdriver as a wedge behind each ear of the starter flange to jack it out. Amazing how effective 10 years of corrosion can be.
