Missing Mazda Familia....yes yes I know it's not a toyota :P

Postby cat007 » Mon Jan 23, 2012 12:21 pm

Hey all
My mate has a 1992 Mazda familia. 1500 with a carby.
Misses on acceleration after deacelerating when coming up to a roundabout. Cruising is fine and wot is fine. As long as you haven't just been decelerating.

It feels like 1 or 2 of the spark plugs have been pulled out. It's not a total fuel cut style miss - just a massive loss in power, and some hesitation.

Any thoughts?

Cheers

Sounds like carb accelerator pump, but will normally give a flatspot if thats the case..

Take the air box top off without it running. Blip the throttle while looking down carb primary venturi, you should see a shot of fuel. If not the accelerator pump circuit may need attention or kit.

May have vacuum leak as suggested but that normally will affect car at Idle. H/t lead will normally give problems under load. Could be a few things..

Why?

She's bringing the car round shortly so I'll check the vacuum lines are all still there.
Seems like a fuel think rather than a spark thing?

When she left last night it missed and coughed and spluttered as soon as she drove away...

just because they are in the correct place, dosn't mean they are working properly (tend to perish internally). nip 1/4" or each one and refit

Ok so I had a retard moment last night when I looked at it.

It's EFI - not carby HAHA

Don't drink and diagnose lol

There was a split in the intake pipe between AFM and throttle body.

Sealed it up temperarily but it's still missing.

Sprayed a fine mist of water on the HT leads and dizzy and revved it. Arc'd out a bit between the leads and also between the tip of one of the leads and the dizzy cap.

Mate's getting new leads and dizzy cap tomorrow so I guess we'll go from there

Cheers :)
