Converting to power steering

Postby bzrspeed » Thu May 31, 2012 8:40 am

Hello
The Lada does not have power steering. i would like make it have it. I have found a steering rack from a 1997 version of same car that has power steering but pump is run via pulley from engine. The engine I put in does not allow this to happen so need to convert to electric pump for the power steering.
I have found one from a VTR 1.6L which should be powerful enough. My question is how to mount this in the car. Anyone ever done conversion before?

This is the pump

(not pump but the same model for you to see)

Might be different to the one above, but I know that the MR2 electric powersteering system draws about 80 amps when turned on full blast, and its not really feasible to run it like that turned on all the time.

Needs some electronics to make it work effectively.

I miiiiiiggght have an entire MR2 setup with the control units etc for sale at some point if you're interested.

I am interested.
Quick ratio manual rack is like $812 ex Russia. As long as cheaper and easier to use then i like idea.

I have been told MR-S power Steering easier to use but not as big pump as VTR.
