Ok so I'm in the process of weight reduction and tidying the interior my race car.
Originally in the foot wells it had 4mm alloy checker plate. It was a rally car but I have converted it to a track hack. What have you seen or recommend? I was thinking of a grip tape or paint but I am unsure so suggest away.

Checker plate is good, but you need to be careful with how much NOS you run

He's right, the checker plate might fall through the car and scrape along the ground before being ejected at high velocity from the underbelly leaving a big gaping hole in the cabin ;D

I had a sparco foot rest in the passenger footwell of my rallycar and it worked well, especially if the seat is along way back and your co-driver wants something to help them support their weight. I generally reckon any sort of alloy plate in the foot well is just for looks but I did hear of someone a few years ago that got a strainer post through the floor after going off the road.

I would have thought paint and grip tape would be a pretty good solution as you say.

I've seen Hammerite or a similar product with that built into the texture of the paint. Like rough dimples or similar so that could be an option.

Hammered finish? I wouldn't say you would get very good grip off that, be better off using a smooth finish with 3M grip tape.

or mix grit (or other media) with paint

just paint it and sprinkle some sand on.

I have seen some stuff at Mitre10 that you can mix with paint to give it more grip, they use it on outdoor ball courts. just ask the staff

Wasn't exactly a hammered finish as such, the product i'd used was flakey like it had sand in the spray can. Used it on my trueno in an incospicuous plcae to get it white and thought "Man this is so rough"

It's good to have something there to stop your feet slipping about.
Have a look at the stick on stuff that they apply to skate boards. You could probably buy it quite cheaply and it'd weigh nothing.
It seems to last forever but if it does wear out replacing it would be easy.
