Auto to Man conversion

Postby 20v_rollaboy » Tue Jul 17, 2012 1:41 am

Just a few questions regarding ep91 auto to manual conversion Im doing.

In the past all Ive done is rig the gear selector in neutral so the ecu thinks its always in neutral, however this has ECT-S.

I found http://www.autoshop101.com/forms/h16.pdf which talks about Engine Torque Control on page 14. Should I be making the ecu think its in drive instead of neutral?

Thanks
Ryno

Car wont start if it thinks its in drive all the time. Could rig up a clutch switch, so press in clutch pedal, thinks its in park, release and its in drive. Start with clutch pedal down and away you go.

My other idea was a hidden tiny little button you could press under the dash as you turned the key to do the same thing as above, but hidden so its kind of a kill switch.

Starting a car with your foot on the clutch isn't really the best idea. You're loading up your thrust washers and there's a chance they might not be slippery with oil....

a lot of new cars do it regardless.

Kind of a pita, turn the key to start, hold it there and then kick in the clutch.

I'm pretty sure the only thing stopping the car from starting is the starter solenoid wire running through the neutral selector switch. Once you bridge that it should start regardless of what gear the ecu thinks it is in. Take it for a drive with it in the various auto selection positions and see which works best now that its a manual.

Not manual yet unfortunately, I need to sell my wagon to get the garage space to do it.

I guess my issue isn't so much getting it started, but whether the ECT-S ecu not getting a signal from the auto box will cause it to do funny things like retard ignition.[/quote]
