Rally tyres worn?

Postby captain crescent » Sun Jul 22, 2012 6:02 pm

I have 2 sets of rally tyres 195/65/15 Bridgestone direzza 86r.
These came with my race car when i purchased it . How can you tell if the tyres are worn( i have done some research on internet but mixed opinions)

What are they worth if they are good or worn? also what are they good for if they are f@#ked?

Some pictures below.

Don't look bad at all, but I am veiwing via phone. 2nd set look to be more worn.
You want the edge of the tread blocks to be sharp so they cut into soft stuff. Rounded edges are worn.

They still look pretty good. I have a set that are quite worn. Same tyre and compound I think. Only done one hillclimb on an SR20 powered AW11. They were grooved out when i bought them used. The edges are quite chewed out.

tyres don't look too bad, at least they have a grooveable block pattern, some tyres don't allow for re-cutting edges easily.

shame they are 195, as they are too wide for my car. but in saying that, i know of someone with and early Evo that they may suit.

yep they look pretty good. to most competitors worn is half the blocks missing or chewed out. chuck em on trademe, im not sure what those are worth but dont expect huge dollars. most competing rally guys dont really buy second hand that much.

They do actually. There's a good trade in 2nd hand rally tyres. There's usually quite a few on TM at around $80 to $100 each. The better of these would fit in there and the others probably $50 to $60 each.

I picked mine up for $40 each but yours are in better condition and wider. Mine are 185 I think.

First year I was with Mason he used 2nd hand tyres every rally. Last few stages were often run on the best of what was left as no budget for new ones. Won the national champ that year too.

i'm bloody sure we even rustled up some old Colways, from when Chris was the agent for them
