anyone had to fight one of these bugger before?

im wondering if anyone has any advice on removing it without having to lift the whole engine.

its very cramped and there is bugger all room to move my sockets in. im either using 1 small extension through a tiny hole, or three large ones coming out by the tie rod :roll:

one way i thought of doing it was removing the exhaust section between the headers and cat, but would i need new gaskets before doing this?

Drop the east/west and North south crossmembers is the easiest way I've ever found

if they are anything like the ae92/101 rear engine mounts then hitting the studs out of the engine mounts helps a whole lot. And provided you dont bugger the thread removing them you just put them back in and tighten them up when you put the mount back in

Oh and to undo the main bolt through the rubber part I always end up using a few extensions and a power bar from the wheel well with a ring spanner on the other side. I may have used a flexi bit on the socket as well (cant remember)

Knock the studs out with a hammer first then just undo the 17mm bolt and it slides out the back easily. Before putting new one in grind off the chunk on top and it fits in even easier. I've got it down to bout half an hour job.

replace studs with bolts and you can easily get the them with a spanner.

remember to loosen off front engine mount and jack engine up then retighten to take any slop out of the mounts.

i assume you guys mean the studs on the bottom of the mount that bolts it to the crossmember?

they arent the problem, ive had the engine out recently so they arent seized or anything.

however its the 17mm bolt I cant get off :x its VERY tight, and theres bugger all room to fit my sockets through to get a good angle on it.

im probably going to remove the exhaust and borrow a big 1/2 inch breaker and socket for it.

thanks shrike i think I will be dropping the crossmember before I resort to pulling the engine out :)

alright, i decided im just going to remove the exhaust.

hopefully the sucker comes out!!!

got come crc "exhaust gasket" cement sort of stuff to make sure it goes back together without any leaks.

now im guesing my problem is going to be "how to remove stuck exhaust bolts" but im sure there is countless topics on that so off i go googling :lol:

Red silicon is better for sealing exhaust. bolt should come out easy

got it done yesterday.

if anyone else is coming across this, i ended up use a half inch, with one of those twisty/angle adaptor things and a extension to bring a big breaker bar down the other side of the exhaust.
