AE92 Trueno 4agze fuel question

Postby draz » Tue Sep 25, 2012 9:56 pm

I have a 4agze from a AE92 Trueno fitted to another car. Ive plumbed the fuel system with a surge tank with a slave pump to fill the surge tank and another main pump to supply the engine....problem is that its running veerry lean from idle right up the rev range. Power is way down too. Theres plenty of pressure and its been suggested that I need a fuel regulator to cut down the pressure and up the volume. Can anyone tell me if the AE92 Trueno had a separate reg in the fuel tank? Pulling my hair out here again, just cant figure what the problem is. Any ideas??

cheers

where are you measuring the pressure from? measure it at the rail with the vaccum line off the regulator to check what it should be.

there is no seperate reg on the tank in ae92's

i'm assuming you have a fuel reg on the 4agze fuel rail still? with a vaccum line to it?

Hi, thanks for that...yep its measured as you say and the reg is still on the fuel rail. I havent got numbers but he says the pressure at the rail is 3 times what it should be. Tried a different pump but its still the same :?

if the reg is still there. and hooked up properly, its either not working, or can't flow enough to keep the pressure down.

i had this issue with a whinebro fuel pump on a 3sgte, had to fit a bigger aftermarket reg to bring the pressure down to where it should have been.

Injectors are out now, being checked for blockages etc. Just in case.....are there any reputable suppliers over there for standard gze injectors?

Ok...new problem :( found that the injectors are only pulsing at 30%, so that means the computer is telling them that....... the Diagnostic plug isnt working either so Im buggered if I know whats next....Anyone out there got any hints or ideas???....anyone...anything??

Its got me beat and the mech is baffled too but at least he hasnt given up, he's just not sure where to look next.

There is a brown VSV that needs to be plumbed in before the fuel pressure regulator, if your car is still running lean and has no air leaks there is a way to ritchen it further under load, will discuss if required. It has taken me quite alot of time to get my 4AGZE in tune after years of people fiddling with it. I seriously doubt it would be an ECU if your car runs, I would look at the air flow meter first and foremost.

The brown VSV to the pressure reg is there to prevent vapourlock for hot starting, so normally has no effect.

Good news....after buying another ecu and finding a map sensor in USA I gave it all to the mech. I also had a reply on another forum from a guy in Denmark, he suggested it may be the pulsation damper on the end of the fuel rail. Armed with all this info the mech set to work, ecu and map were both ok...so I have spares now...it was a faulty pulsation damper and rust in the fuel rail. Damper was removed and replaced with an elbow joint, fuel rail cleaned and now runs at full power right thru the rev range.
I get to pick up the car later today so Ill give it a test on the way home.....that was a looong saga.
Thanks to everyone who contributed their possible solution to my problem. Thankfully there are forums like this where info can be shared.
Cheers all
