Toyota LSD's (no not the drug kind)

Postby Infra » Fri Dec 14, 2012 3:50 pm

Hey...

Just recently bought myself a GS300/Aristo, did a little bit of a search but cannot determine what diff I have in the car, the chassis plate says it is a A03A, done a search on this, but as per usual with the net there is contradictory information out there, from some checks
I've done already it appears it is an open diff, what would be the best replacement out of what car to change it to a LSD model ?

Any help is much appreciated...

Cheers.

You need to get a Torsen type factory LSD and axles from a jza80 supra or jzz30 soarer.

They will have a diff code of AoxB

Be careful because lots of different model toyotas have the A0xA and A0xB code, but the diff MUST be from a jza80 or jzz30 to fit - chaser/altezza etc etc with A0xA is no use - completely different animal.

ps - the jza must be a non turbo, or turbo auto - the turbo manuals had a B0xB diff which is also of no use

IS yours a 147 or 161?

I put a torsen center from a JZA80 manual non turbo into my JZZ31 soarer, that way the diff ratio stays the same. I took my diff and the torsen center to mechanic and it cost 300 to get the swapped over.

Pretty sure that they go in a jzs147 ok, but I dont know about a 161.
Science never sleeps...

Current JZZ31 soarer 2jzge-T (project), Crown Athlete 3.5 (Daily)
RVR Turbo (idle)
Carmy Wagon 2.5 (lent to mum).
Previous. A32 maxima (dead) 190e Merc (dead)
Terrano (dereg for 10 years, still being driven in west Auckland)

To avoid confusion, not all manual turbos had the B series diff.

Ed is right, get a Torsen, unless you are going full retard on the build you don't need a TRD
