Crank Pulley Replacement (2JZ) - Stock Vs ATI Vs Fliudamper

With all the talk recently with people having crank pulleys giving way, i want to replace mine before it does damage.

What is the better replacement?

Stock? ATi? Fluidampr?

Some say the Fluidampr is best for low RPM and ATI for high. No idea where they get the stats from? :?

Interested to hear anyones experience also.

On a similar theme, the guys in the US racing with the BMW S54B32 (e46 M3 engine) have a lot of crank pulley (harmonic balancer) failures.
A vast majority now use the OEM pulley/balancer, and treat it as a 'consumable' replacing each season, they also have a cooling duct pointed at the pulley to keep it cool. After a few trying all vaireties of after market units.

I stuck with a new OEM HB because I trust Toyotas QC <Y2K ;)

Im not suggesting the aftermarket items arent good or better in some cases, but unless you are talking about a huge power race engine, I dont see the need. And then consider that certain HB's dont fit well and will possibly need machining out to get over the snout of the crank, and I know what one Im choosing.

Most of us own fast street cars, that go to the track from time to time, so Im sure the oem HB will suit anyone else in this category fine too.

Given most 2JZ's are almost 20 years old, I would consider it an extremely smart idea to get a new one on there asap, unless its clearly been replaced in the recent past.

P.S Buy a new HB bolt at the same time.

I will be installing a Ross one once my engine is built, just so I never have to replace it again.
Though at the moment I'm not running a harmonic balancer on my NA and have been for about 20K+ without any issues, despite a whole bunch of people having the belief that the engine is going to spontaneously blow up because it doesn't have one :lol:

I like the look of the aftermarket stuff and adding that to your parts list is cool :P

I am going to the US in a few days and thought of getting one and bringing back with me - will save on international shipping for sure!

Need to have a think about it now. Cheers for input people!

i went for the ATI one as every review i read about them said they work well, will have to update when the car's going, my old one had some serious cracks in the rubber so i would def recommend replacement atleast with the OEM one.
current: 96' Supra RZS single Gt42 490kw at 20psi, daily - Hiace 2.7 van '05
previous: 92' mr2 g-limited, fuls gen 2 turbo conversion, steel ct20b, external etc etc :)

Those weights and images were put together by a chap named Stuart(Superstock), who knows a thing or two about a thing or two, and factual data is his strong point.

He also did a simulation for my new FFIM to let me know where I can expect losses and gains, given its plenum volume, and velocity stack length etc...
