adjustable cam gears for 2jz na-t

Postby steroidcontaskie » Tue Mar 19, 2013 5:20 pm

Hi all

Was wondering if anyone has experience with adjustable cam gears on a 2jz na-T.
Since I have GE cams and the car now has a turbo on it. Would the cam gear be a worthwhile upgrade or is money best spent elsewhere?

Cheers
Edward

I cant remember if you decked either your block, or head, when you did your conversion?

If so, then the gears can be used to adjust your timing back to factory settings.

Unless you are going to have them degreed on a dyno, then there is a fair amount of guesswork involved, but there are some generalised rules of thumb that some people use.

Ask Shane (strx7 on here) what he set his to on his and Megans SZ-R.

How is your car going by the way? Smooth running now?

Cool, will give him a message,

I didn't touch the head or block (will do that if I blow the stock head gasket).

Car is kind of running. trans is slipping in 2-4 at over 4k rpm, I have a rebuild and valve body kit but haven't got it installed yet. Is tuned up to 4k rpm and then set up to run safe and rich over that. Unfortunately my mum ran her car out of oil and I have had to lend her my daily driver, so the soarer is being driven at the moment. Runs well under 4k.

If the gearbox rebuild goes well I will run it at 9 psi low boost and 14 psi high boost with water methanol spraying.

Been looking at cars for my mum and girlfriend, but ever time I get back in the soarer I think, why doesn't everyone buy a 90s Toyota and just drive that around.

Cheers
