Axle studs with bushing ??

Was looking at a "pair" of AE86 zenki axles I bought of tardme
a while ago. They have the big bearings and look legit, but when
I went to take the studs out I found that one axle had bushings
for the studs. The studs were 12 x 1.5 and close enough to the
standard length. But on one axle the holes were bushed down
to approx 12 dia. So studs with a 12mm knurl instead of the
standard 14mm knurl ??

Anyone struck this before ? Any reason why it would be done other
than running out of 14mm knurl studs for a repair ?

Bushings looked a bit like this...



Fitted from the axle side of the flange, and then the stud pressed
into the bushing.

Weird. Can only think that perhaps the holes were ovaled, so they sleeved them down?

Only reason to do it would be rooted holes from studs spinning or too many stud replacements. Replace axles or just run with the spacers.
