Tune up in Auckland

Postby softlad » Sun Jun 30, 2013 10:10 pm

Can anyone recommend someone in Auckland for me to take my Levin ApexGT to for a good standard tuneup which i would like to do prior to the first 2K cup meet on the 21st at Hampton Downs.
Having broken my mechanical skills on Mk2 Golf's I'm a complete 4AGE silvertop novice

Tune up?

Check the timing. Change plugs, rotor, dizzy cap and the leads and fuel filter. That is about as much tune up you can do.

I'm with Al on this. Only thing remotely tricky is setting timing. You need a timing light and to know to bridge two pins in the diagnostic connector to get the ECU to run constant timing while you check/set it.
And you now know about it, a few minutes with google will give you the exact procedure.

Al left out flushing the cooling system and changing the air filter tho :)

I'd be more worried about flushing and bleeding brakes, and fitting decent pads tbh :)
Reality: A nasty hallucination that is caused by excess blood in the alcohol stream.

I have done plugs, leads, dizzy cap & rotor, cambelt, waterpump & new coolant.
I had to replace the TPS when I got it as the previous owner had tried to use an incorrect TPS but when it fitted but didn't work set about messing with other stuff to try and make it run!!

when mucking around with TPS make sure you set it as per repair manual.

Ask him if he'll set the timing to 14 deg rather then 10. The ST in my AW racecar goes heaps better at 14 then 10 deg.
See ya

Well p*ssed off, went to put some fuel in the levin before dropping off for tue up tomorrow, and the bloody thing gave up on me as i was leaving the petrol station.
Refused to re-start so had to tow home and will deposit at Sparg's tommorow to resolve as running out of time before shake down race on 21st.
It went really well initially but then theres a major hesitation when you plant your foot, just hope nothing major!!?? :(
