Black Top VVT Pulley

Ok so I splashed out and got a brand new genuine VVT pulley

Question is I have noticed some engraving on the front of it and what I would call minor pitting on the inside of it....

Is this normal for a new unit?

Can post pictures if that would help.

Also noticed some dirt/marks from what looks like where it has been bolted to a cam shaft?

Definitely post up pics. I replaced mine with a brand new one the other month and while I didn't examine it closely, I definitely didn't notice anything like that. Where'd you buy it from?

Hmm, it certainly doesn't look like the most perfectly made pulley out there but it doesn't look bad either.

I can't look at my new one since all of the timing covers are on, but I just had a look at my old one and it has those same lines on the outside edge, albeit a little prettier.

Did you buy the pulley from a Toyota dealership?

The "pitting" looks like a section where the casting hasn't been machined, and is nothing to worry about IMO.

I'm guessing those two lines are where they have checked the VVT travel, should be about 15degrees apart.

All the parts I deal with at work are perfect condition IE no marks like these and also after spending so much money on it I kinda want to make sure

Now just waiting for the genuine cambelt kit to come in

Normal casting marks etc for a maker that has to count every penny
No point machining a surface if it doesn't need it
