C56 gearbox question

Postby sark.inc » Sat Oct 18, 2014 11:50 pm

I just put together a C56, and I went and tested gear selection and now it seems to be jammed into either 1st or 5th section and can't work out why it will not budge back.

Any ideas?

Last time I had that problem I hadn't put the two balls back in the selector arm , only one equals locked in gear

"Understeer" is when you hit the fence with the front of the car.
"Oversteer" is when you hit the fence with the rear of the car.
"Horsepower" is how fast you hit the fence.
"Torque" is how far you take the fence with you.

As above, usually caused by the detents not being fitted. Pretty sure you have to take one out to get the casings appart

They're under the hex screws in the side of the casing so you shouldn't have to take the box out or appart

Well that appears not to be the problem...

Does anyone have a rebuild manual?

Are you sure the 3 selector slots were all in line i.e. in neutral when you put the selector arm back in? You'll need to take the selector assembly out to check.

You haven't bent the external linkages have you? the might be jamming against each other or not moving the full sweep.
I had that after a clutch change, must have banged them at some point and had gear selection issues

But the bell housing was and the selector rods for 1st or 5th may have moved when refitting the bell housing as the selector arm would probably have held the centre rod in position as that is the default.

well, found the problem are pulling it apart.

The person who put it together for me left the ball in the slide and it jammed it as such, also ruined the spring.

Does anyone know a good place to get a box rebuilt?
