fujitsubo rear muffler, toss or repair - rattles

Postby Shins » Tue Dec 09, 2014 7:44 pm

i was checking my rear muffler for an annoying rattle so unbolted it from car to discover when i shake the muffler it sounds like a metal pipe has come loose inside it

sadly it was a good muffler new it is part of a fujitsubo cat back system, car is ae111 sprinter trueno bzr

so is it worth even bothering to get quotes to repair it or just bite the bullet and replace it, i want another bolt on unit if poss

I doubt it's economically viable to repair. The rattles are from the internal baffles breaking off, so would require basically completely rebuilding.
AdrenalinR may be able to make a suitable bolt on replacement?

Your replacement would be under $300.

It seems a lot of the Japanese mufflers like that use mild steel internal pipe, and rust out over time. I've also found quite a few of the 3" systems actually squeeze down to 2.5" or even 2.25" (mild steel) through the muffler.

It would probably only be economic if you were rebuilding it yourself, or you really wanted to keep that muffler exterior. I did it once myself, probably wouldn't do it again.

Ive got a similar muffler just sitting around that I could never use. $50? Youd need to weld that bend piece on.
