Adjustable 4-link For KP Starlet – Options?

Postby wde_bdy » Mon Feb 23, 2015 3:19 pm

Looking at options for an adjustable 4 link for a KP Starlet but want to run bushed rod ends. Any one done something similar and where did you source your rod ends from? What was overall cost and how did you mod your 4 link arms to suit or did you start from scratch? Seems to be a couple of different ways to tackle it –
Adjustor welded into factory arms then poly bushes to replace factory rubbers
Bushed rod ends and threaded tube or bungs welded into normal tube
For my front arms I used rod ends from Magoos with a custom sleeve to match the bolt size and fill the space between the mounting points as they were a bit narrow, at $50 each though that will add up quickly and then need threaded tube for them.
MAGOOS (link)
Can source cheaper out of the US but freight is a bit up there.
You can also get these rod ends in a variety of sizes that have grease fittings.
GREASED ROD ENDS (link)
Or for a not bad price you can get with the threaded tube, just need to sort better freight options. This means no welding and no xray required for cert.
FULL KIT (link)
What size rod ends did you use? I have 5/8” on my front LCA’s and assume these will do for the rear, although there are 3/4” readily available for not much more.
Any input welcome.

My KP rally car runs factory triangulated four link (far from ideal for anything really) & a panhard rod, believe it or not &
3/4 rose joints on both ends of all links.

Trying to avoid rose joints since it is a high use road car, looking more for the bushed rod ends like this -

Shouldn't be too much hassle to cert them, but depends on the certifier. You'd probably either have to provide proof they have been welded by a ticketed/certified welder or else send them to get tested to satisfy the Certifier that they are done to a reasonable standard. They may also want to see a material certificate to prove the grade of steel etc it's been made from. I know it's not as easy to get welded suspension components certified as it used to be but then they are just doing their job properly & making sure that it's highly unlikely to ever fail during normal road use/abuse.

Ended up getting the Steinjager arms -

Look pretty good quality, just need to sort a new sleeve to suit the Starlet bolt size and width.
