Haven't been on these forums in a while! Since I've upgraded from the old bubble car (Echo)...
Acquired myself a 2007 (import) Hiace, 1KD-FTV 3.0L diesel motor.
Besides all the normal "DPF filters are shit" comments, I have what I believe to be an unrelated issue, and seek confirmation on what it might be... short of paying Toyota my hard earned cash to diagnose something I may be able to fix myself.
Symptom:
Engine temp: Warm, Driving conditions: All, Motorway & 50k zones, Weather: All.
When allowed to idle, a "blockage" appears to occur, seemingly in the exhaust system. something rattles and its gutless (because the turbo isn't getting any power to spin), but if you give it some foot, it sounds like a blow off valve releasing (the van "sneezes" I swear). The turbo will then spool and its off like normal. I have a feeling its something to do with the wastegate, but I'm unfamiliar with the total setup of the turbo with this motor. I believe it to have a variable geometry turbocharger, unsure if this feature is enough to cause this kind of blockage... then again, could a wastegate do this?
Im 90% sure this is not a DPF related issue, on the phone, toyota seemed to agree. Have never had a DPF indicator light, and my driving habits lend well to running with a DPF (Long stints on the motorway)
Has anyone else experienced this kind of behaviour from their Hiace?
Cheers!
