GS300 Hesitation / Lack of Power

Postby FANGIN » Wed Mar 09, 2016 2:25 pm

Hi All,

I have a 1999 GS300. Ever since I've purchased it it's had an issue with accelerating.
Engine: 2JZ-GE, 209,xxx kms.
<1/4 throttle: Accelerates fine.
1/4 > Full throttle: at low RPM all power diasppears and the car refuses to accelerate, no matter what gear. As the rpms increase you can roll in to the throttle and achieve maybe 3/4 throttle at high rpm in a low gear.
Have put new coils in the car and has helped improve the issue (Any more than 1/4 throttle previously and the car would actually start decellerating).
Have read through quite a few american forums and found similiar issues, but no one seems to have a definitive answer.

Car has no warning lights on the dash.

Any of you gurus on here experienced the issue before?

Regards,

Mike

Try cleaning the MAF sensor (if it has one) with MAF sensor cleaner.

These cars are very prone to throttle body issues. We have 6 of them currently at work (Toyota wrecker) and every single one has had the throttle body sold not long after they come in. Could very well be causing the problem you're experiencing. Although with a retail price of around $350 + GST secondhand it'll be best to get it checked out by an auto sparky to confirm.

I have had the fun of repairing a faulty JZS161 without any info available I now have a GS300 workshop manual im happy to share

Your welcome to send me a usb drive for manual

Most common fault is TPS and clutch in throttle body both are easy fixs

A decent scan tool is required to pull codes but paper clip works for most

Throttle body problems are common (as above), but have always thrown a CEL in my experience, as its a 'drive by wire' setup and is pretty fussy on PPS and commanded throttle angle vs actual TPS signal

I'd be checking the fuel pressure under load - if I've read it right, and the car starts struggling under load (heavy throttle), thats' a classic 'starving for fuel' scenario
- Fuel filter
- Fuel Pump or plumbing (a no return style system I think so could be something crazy goin on)
