Caldina fuel filter change

Postby Technohedge » Sat Apr 30, 2016 6:09 pm

Gonna sound like a noob question but how the hell does the filter come off the GTT? Looks like you gotta get two spanners under there?

Ive done these types before but sure they were easier? Is there any trick to it?

cheers

Best result achieved with this type of spaner (flare ring spanner/pipe spanner):

From memory it will have 17mm (or maybe 14?) hex on the filter and 12mm on the flare nut.
Very high chance rounding flare nut if wrong spanner used (ie: regular open end spanner).
If it is like any Toyota from that era, the fuel filter will be located on the firewall/behind passenger strut tower area, and the flare nut can be accessed via the steering rack hole (wheel area).
It is good idea to replace the copper washers on top banjo bolt.

Filter can be unbolted first (just crack top banjo bold beforehand), there are two bolts clamping it down to the firewall. The solid line can be popped down a bit out of the plastic clip to give you room to play.
