its no easier putting it in, its all just down to preference really. Some people like the blue top coz of the massive ports, and some the redtop, coz of the stronger block etc etc.
i reckon u should go with the redtop...
COZ THE BLUETOP IN THE WAG IS MY PROJECT!!!!
thenn we will race

i used to be like that too,
worrying about power figures, just put whatever engine comes to you cheaper
you're making like almost double the power the 4k is putting out either way.
i never appreciated what an insane jump in power it was til the starlet got bluetop'd
u can even feel the difference 2-3hp gain.
yeah, so just get which ever engine comes to you at the lower cost,
theres no way you'll be disappointed

well overkill is kinda right here, you will be impressed which ever you go for!!
with the blue top, they are usually cheaper, easier to find, and more worn out!
the redtops are a little harder to find, more power, and usually not quite as worn...
so if your dropping in a stocker id go for the redtop, but if you come across a cheap bluetop fit that. if your planning major engine work going for the max na hp then id go for a redtop.

hey man, i just put a bluetop in my kp starlet, got the engine complete (loom computer, everything) for $600, thought that was fair. All it took to put in was a another starlet crossmember with the engine mounts cut off, drilled 3 holes and it was in (2 for the engine mounts on the x-member, and one for the clutch cable to go thru the backing plate on the bell-housing), not running, but in. used a k50 g'box off a 3a powered corolla (its not gonna be a race car) which allowed me to used the stock g'box x-member and shifter hole... easiest conversion ever
Just the wiring a pain in the ass!!! Damn injection...

the tvis helps fight this tho. And there was a RWD bluetop, in the AE86 i believe, but hard to come across, and if u do find one it wont be cheap.

rwd 4age parts arnt cheap engine compleet with everything you need for rwd minus gearbox is worth 1200+
some places can adapt fwd bits to suit rwd config ie cut and shut intake manifolds probaby works out just as good and 3 times cheaper

dead right.
Redtop=mud
Bluetop is the best for n/a power and for a low budget turbo engine with 200hp easily attainable on stock ecu
