Postby sprint » Wed Sep 01, 2004 9:56 pm

I was wondering what i can do to get rid of the 180 km/hr speed limiter on my 1G-GTE. Has anyone done it before?

i looked at getting a Speed cut defender too, was gonna cost me about $200-300 installed.
that was before a couple of incidents that kinda sucked my dry of any sort of financial backing.
still, its in the plans, do some research & post your results :)

I was at puke on sunday and was sitting on the 180 limiter down the back straight. So i take it there is no quick fix? You cant bypass it? What about disconnecting the speedo cable? You wont get a speed or rev counter but maybe you can go faster than 180?

Here's a < $5 speed cut that works for 3S-GTE's and should work for most other Toyotas :D

Get a 4024 I/C from Dick Smith ( http://www.dse.co.nz/cgi-bin/dse.storef ... View/Z5624 ) then connect as follows;

Pin #1 -> Speed Input ( From Speedo ?)
Pins # 2 & #7 -> Ground
Pin #14 -> +5v
Pin #12 -> Speed output (to ECU)

Cut the speed input to the ECU and put this I/C inline and it should solve your 180km/h problems

Most modern cars have a VSS wire going staright to the ECU from the trans, so pulling your speedo cable is pointless. You could disconnect the VSS wire, but that's not a recommended option, causes all sorts of problems

how does the speed limiter works? I don't suppose its those "plug it into ciggy lighter and it'll work"?

I've got a pivot shift light that works off the ciggy lighter and I'm still confused as to how they managed to pick up those slight changes in voltages and trigger the shift light... I tried turning lights on and off to offset the shift light system but it doesn't actually go off... :?

find the purple wire with a white stripe that goes into your ecu and put a switch on it, when the switch is closed the car will act like normal with the speed cut but when you open it the engine check light will come on but you can go over 180... no need for expensive gadgets

These shift lights use circuitry that picks up the electromagnetic signals output by your ignition system. Same way any good scope looks at duty cycle etc.

Is that tried and tested? Because usually when CEL comes on you go into limp mode.

lol, just like when you put a switch in for VTEC. Engine check light comes on and rev limits to 6500ish until you restart the car

btw, VTEC at idle sounds stupid :P
