Playing around in low-mid revs?

Postby SKDABL » Thu Sep 16, 2004 6:05 pm

Hey
I've got a 1989 4door corolla and when i get to 2000rpm it plays around a bit untill 2600rpm then goes back to normal.

Also
After i rev it up to 4000rpm and let the gas off once it hit idle revs there is a little rattle that comes from around the bottom on the engine bay, goes away after 2 seconds of rattle

Anyone got any ideas why it does this?
Engine - 4A-F
Carby 1.6l gl

Thanks

if it's a rattle at a certain RPM range it could be an engine mount that's semi or fully $&#$% :? :?

hve you tried standing in front of the motor and revving it up to see how far it tilts over?

Just had a service 2weeks age, brand new wof (i thought wofs pick up on this stuff?) yup, oil is between full and low so i guess its alright.

I'll check the mounts tomorrow cus its pretty dark, what should i be looking for, rust? cracks?

I might do a inspection of the whole underside also.

Thanks heaps guys

2cm isnt far for an engine to move.

Maybe you have a foreign object in your sump. Sounds far fetched but its an idea

Could be the inspection plate between the block and gearox, mine is loose on my 4AGE, it rattles at certain RPM's but can't fall out due to an engine mount being in the way.

NO....unless all of ur mounts and ur x-members degrade enough to fall to bits. (Higly unlikely)

Just making sure lol
I checked underthe bay for the rattle and i cant seem to find where its comming from, all mounts look fine, rattles not comming from mounts, its definatly under the engine, near the extractors and the beginning of the exhuast.

Should I get this checked out? or isn't it that biga deal?
Thanks.

i'd be checking the exhuast shrouds around the manifold or front pipe.
a broken engine mount a corolla isn't a common thing and if one ever does go it will be the rear
as for the hesitation there are some valves in the intake maifold and if the diaphram for the acuators split can cause a surge. same with the vaccum advance on the dist.

Is it a serious problem?
Will it need fixing or will it be fine the way it is?

Thanks
