Trumpets for 20V Blacktop

Postby nobbie » Mon Feb 21, 2005 1:51 pm

There seems to be much discussion on replacing the intake trumpets on 20v blacktops. I have done plently of searches! However none really answers my questions.

I am looking at totally removing the plenum and taking of my rubber intake tubes and replacing them with machined 70mm ones, then fitting unifilter socks over them.

I understand that they are probably going to be sucking a bit of hot air so to negate this I wil set up some ducting from the font of the car.

The guy selling (whilst he may be biased) has said a gain of around 5% is attainable and many have been fitted to rally, race and street blacktop engines with good results.

Could anyone please clarify if this is worth doing. Espcially interested in hearing from others who have done this.

Thanks
nobbie

youll lose all your low end...

power isnt everything...

the power and torque curve's are... get an autronic ecu, do the auto tune, and youll weild some good reuslts with that.. this comming from the chap that i think rev head knows? the oldish fella that was in charge of the rally levin blacktop.

making a quoted *180hp*...

which is a bit better than the 130 we have :P

am i right revhead..?

FACT: 167hp at the wheels. 16 valve with factory 20 valve intake. Stock airbox, stock trumpets.
FACT: I'm first in line to play, once I get her back together!!!

TOMs trumpets on a blacktop?
Interesting, did you dyno them?

I thought that TOMS did a universal 20 valve trumpet which slips inside the TB. There has already been discussions here in regards to the flow restrictions and velocity issues they create in the silvertop. I would think they would be worse in the blacktop due to the larger TB's. IE the very fast air in the trumpet falls into the larger manifold, slows just before fuel is injected into the air stream.... not good.

They are however a beautiful trumpet with a good 360 degree bellmouth and a nice taper to the trumpet.
