20v power/torque output

Postby Dragger_Dan » Mon Oct 03, 2005 9:33 am

Can somebody tell me how much power a 20v can put out in standard form. Anybody got a dyno printout for this? There is a lot of debate about how much they actually put out, I would like to hear some facts on this.

a more accurate figure would be around 135-140 at the fly for a silver, and 145ish for the BT
silvertops seems to average 95-110 at the wheels.
blacktops high 115 low 120ish.

Surely your being a bit mean :?

your saying thats more than some 20v's
I love deadlines. I like the whooshing sound they make as they fly by.

The 20v are the most overrated, underpowered engines, mine pulled a hefty 67KW (running 14 to 1 ratio, because of suck ass SAFC)... And the bad thing is that they fitted them in a whale.

I owed one for 5 years.

Went to dyno a few times, with different mods. Same output as allways. 67Kw.

its kinda funny cause most stock bluetops get around 80kw at the wheels

if you don't belive me here is a link
bluetop with nice headers and a 2inch exhaust, no air filter and no other mods

kinda shows why 20v = gay

Nothing wrong with 20 valve 4AGEs. They're awesome for what they are. They were never designed as a high performance engine, thats what 3SGTEs, 1J's and 2J's were for.

They're a high revving engine that is a good compromise between power and economy. Someone a couple of posts back pointed out the old power-to-weight argument, and they were spot on. If AE101s and AE111s weighed a bit less, they would be a heck of a lot quicker. A 20 valve 4AGE in a light weight car is brilliant, especially with some minor mods.

They'll never be in the same class as 3SGTEs or RB26DETTs, 22Bs, as they're a 1.6 litre NA engine (unless of course you work at Speedtech  ).

The Bunderson put out 123 and 125hp at the wheels with silvertops 132hp with a blacktop and.... 167 hp with my bluetop 16 valve. ;)
All had Link LEM computer, KnN and aftermarket exhaust. The 16 valve had just a little bit more help.
The answer is Helmholtz!
