Postby Lazyluka » Fri Dec 09, 2005 12:55 pm

I just went to a mechanic to book a full service on my car, driving off from the mechanic reved the engine to about 4000 and bam, Ive got a big round circular piece of metal fly off, managed to pick it up off the road, and two belts that are bust.

What do the two belts do? (Luckily cambelt is still on there :D)
Ive realised that they have to be for Aircon, Power Steering, and alternator, is there anythign else the two belts do?
Mind you it seems to go alot faster now. (still get the tick tick tick noise :( )

Also theres some liquid leaking out now :? Im not sure if its oil or what :? Gonna let some more leak out and have another look.

Nah, bro.... Its about 22 degrees in Auckland at the mo. Take it out for the mean thrashing!!! Go sit in some heavy traffic for a while.... she'll be right!!!

Anywany, either replace the belts yourself or park it up till you take it for its service and get them to replace the belts. Don't drive too far though and watch your temp gauge: no hotter than 2/3 or you will cause damage.

What engine have you got?
Motorsport is like sex. You could take it to track and have a long, enjoyable session, or you could take it to the strip and get it over with in less than 20 seconds.

The thing is, belts dint break theyre still in one piece.. Ill take some photos tonite if annyones interested, just cause i dont think that shuld happen, usually the belt breaks not flies off.

oh dear..

listen closly....
DO NOT DRIVE IT.
at least untill some one has looked at it....

it sounds as if you have lost a pully.
it maybe the waterpump pully or the pwr steer pully... or an idler
when that fell off one belt would have come off and probably knocked the other one off. if that has happened your car will over heat.
these only have 2 drive belt, so if you found 2 on the road your water pump is not working

Had a proper look at the engine rite now. It seems that a nut went free which allowed a tensioning "wheel" thing to fall out, which loosened one belt which prolly fell off and knocked the other off.

Lol I dont need a new engine, i just need the current one fixed.. And when it does get fixed i dont think ill be driving it hard again.. Nice and easy from now on :(

Untill wendsday im gonna go back to driving my old car, a 1989 Fiat Uno 70SL. Ahhh good cheap $300 car.

Hey im driving it home, my house is 15mins max from work so I shuld be able to make that no probs, I was thinking of visiting my mechanic before then but I suppose ill be going directly home right now, It doesnt seem to overheat, i drove it for about 10mins during lunch and the temp gauge dint go past half way, it was about 1/3rd of the way. I shuld be fine if i keep the heat down right? Oh and if my battery doesnt crap out on me..

I agree with this. Your engine would warm quicker due to lack of water circulation and metals would expand quicker than they should.

I drove it from BK on constelation to Bush rd (for those that live in auckland) thats a 8min drive max, would that have done annything serious? Temp gauge was pretty good at the time... Like i said was below 1/2 way and dint seem to rise too quickly.. Engine was warmed up though when it happened.. Now its been sitting in the sun slowly cooling down.. :(

to be honest i really think you should get someone to look at it before you move it. no offence but its plain to me that your mechanical knowledge is not a strong point, therefore your explanation may not be correct....
its hard to diagnose things over the internet.

if your being towed with the engine off the steering and brakes will be hard to use. but if you run the engine you run the risk of damage.

something to think about is, think where your gauge is taking that "reading" from....

now think, wheres the waterpump? and the rest of the water in the water jackets...

im not saying its incorrect, but just coz the gauge didnt go up, dosnt mean the engines temp didnt....
