1JZGTE + T04E = Teh ghey fuel economies

Postby MrOizo » Wed Dec 12, 2007 5:31 pm

Over the last few months i have had opportunities to take the JZA70 on some long trips and have found that i have some pretty bad fuel consumption.

What could be causing this? i guess its not the best turbo as its some un-branded one but surely this shouldn't cause excessive consumption?

Get about 400km to a tank (at the pump, 40-45-ish litres)

What are your guys thoughts on this?

cant say much about your economy, but isnt your tank 60litres or more? :?

i know the ma61 one is 60litres

and if you are getting 400kms off 40 litres, then thats not too bad for a mk3.

Yeah its about 65 litres i think.
Just i dont go till i'm at the point where i could fit 60 litres in there :P

I could get to palmy on a whole tank.

Maybe its the Auto? are they really that hungry with losses?

10 liters per 100km?
I wouldn't be moaning at that with a modified car.

i could get to palmy from auckland just over 500km on a tank back in the manual JZA70 days and now i'll be pushing to get to taihape (350?km)

just seems a hell of a lot of a difference.

thought that the single would have improved ecenomy for some reason :o

Far out, to be honest, that some pretty good milage you're getting there!
Thats almost as good as I get in the company Sirion! And thats only a 1.3l!

It could be to do with the auto though. Can you remember what sort of rev's you'd be sitting at in the manual when cruising? If you can, was it less than what you get in the auto?
Motorsport is like sex. You could take it to track and have a long, enjoyable session, or you could take it to the strip and get it over with in less than 20 seconds.

Auto is worse for economy.
Your heavy foot is worse for economy.
The shittier state of fuel being produced while we get charged more for it is worse for economy.

Take your pick, then lower it to reduce your drag co-efficient and improve mileage...

i need to lower the auto? ;) i wish.

I really cant remember what the manual was doing compared to the auto. sure its around the same actually. .

I have changed the trans fluid so thats up to date. dont think thats causing anymore losses that it has to.

but with a single conversion would you expect better, worse or no difference to economy? guess it all depends on the quality of each component used huh/?

i would think, better while crusing with the big single but more when gunning it, seeing as big = more effort required to boost same psi but more air flowing, maybe haha ...... :D

Dude, I used to get around 7/8km per liter in Soarer when it was basically stock. Has your Supra been tuned at all with an ECU?

Do you have any idea if it's running rich at all?

I am getting 12L/100km on my ST205(stock), 15L/100km on my ST165 (CT20b++), and 8.5L/100km on my AE101 20V, so yeah 2.5L turbo and you are getting 10L/100km - you must be driving like nana....
for you reference 8 Km/L = 12.5L/100Km .

in my soarer (GZ10 1gge) a full tank of 60L gets me 610km around town generally so basically 10km/l bein nice to it "most" of the time

i can get auckland to palmy on a tank 40L (trueno) not exactly pussy footing it either. boost was set at max 15psi for the trip. my turbo trueno had better mileage than my honda city :? guess it's just down to the tuning, but the auto definately wont be helping you.

Thats pretty similar milage i get in my supra, however having a w55 with the shorter 5th makes around $10 more diffrence on taupo to palmy compared to the w58 doing alot lower rpms at 100ks

Back when my car was auto fuel was $1.10 per liter so i cant really give you a approximate gas from here to there and liters - dollars, and i cant remember  , its certantly better economy with the manual gearbox tho

oizo, i know what your problem is

petrol price has increased a lot since your last supra.
so while you are using the sameish litres, the $$$ value is quite a bit more
so you THINK your using more!

400k isn't bad off probably only two thirds of your tank oizo! put it in comparison, my manual jza70 at one point did just over 300k to a full tank! mind you i spent way too much time on 17 pound an just off the rev limiter, haha. on the other hand i did hamilton to taupo on quarter of a tank, then half a tank for the track day, then the rest of the tank to get home again, so not complaining about that one!

i'm with revhead, your economy seems fine, remember the auto has a lockdown so open road it's fixed revs, so be like driving a manual anyway.

Thats about the same economy i get on a long trip in my 4e. Uses a hell of alot more if i drive "enthusiatically" Sounds like its doing pretty well.

Na i have been ignoring prices when i fill up... no point taking note of that these days :)

I guess i should take a tank with fuel and drive till i stop and see how low i can go. maybe its just the fuel gauge telling me that its sucking it back when really it aint.
